Change Hotpoint Washing Machine Bearings

by Spare Parts Pro on November 16, 2009

Changing a Hotpoint washing machine bearing is no different than changing any other washing machine bearings.
Things to consider before you attempt a bearing change.

  1. You have the time it takes to make a bearing change. Your partner may not have the patience that you have.
  2. Do you have the correct bearing for your appliance. – Guess what, I have built a appliance spare parts search facility to help you search by appliance make and model.
  3. What about tools. Do you have enough of the correct tools in order to carry out a suitable washing machine bearing change. My favourite tool is the Ball Pane Hammer 2lb
  4. Space you need lots of it. The kitchen floor is not always a suitable environment for starting your drum bearing change.

ARISTON AL129X AUS [Margherita 2000] front loader washer. DRUM PULLEY & BEARING REMOVAL.
I am trying to remove the drum belt pulley to replace noisy bearings & seal. The T40 Torx screw holding pulley onto drum shaft seems impossible to remove !! How do I remove it ?
Does the screw turn LEFT (anti-clockwise) OR RIGHT (clockwise) to loosen ? I have broken the tip of a T40 torx driver (socket type) trying to remove the screw using a hand held Impact Driver & engineers hammer. I wedged some timber in between the spoke of belt pulley and the 4-leg alloy spider.
Should I use an air powered torque wrench with IMPACT quality T40 torx socket or just extension bar & hammer ?? Please advise best method.
I can remove all the 8 x T40 torkx screws holding spider legs onto the outer stainless drum OK, but have temporarily reinserted 1 screw into each spider leg to secure when try to remove the pulley screw.
If I can get belt pulley off, I assume I hit the end of drum shaft with poly hammer to allow spider c/w bearings to be lifted off. I estimate that actual bearing exchange should not be so difficult once the spider is removed.
Your earliest help and ”How to” instructions are most welcomed.
NOTE: I am located in the Gold Coast region of Queensland Australia – if any local repair shop or tech can offer their services ?? I can bring to you if necessary.
