Samsung Washing Machine Error Code Overview

SAMSUNG WASHING MACHINES, ERROR FUNCTIONS

When an error occurs, the alarm noise will sound and the error code displayed in the program window. Listed below is a series of error codes you may or may not see for your model of Samsng Washing Machine. The errors are shown as blinking in O.5 second intervals until the error status has cleared. In this case, all the driving devices are turned off until the error is cleared.

1. WATER SUPPLY ERROR – Display shows 4E.

Water Supply Error occurs when water level frequency does not show changes more than 100Hz or water is not supplied up to the preset water level after 10 Minutes or more at the time of initial water supply. The error status can be cleared by turning the POWER switch OFF and back ON.

2. WATER DRAIN ERROR – Display shows 5E.

5E is displayed if the water level frequency detected is 25 KHz or less in the initial phase of the UNB -detecting cycle. The Water Drain error can be cleared by turning POWER SW OFF and back ON.

3. OVER-FLOW ERROR – Display shows oE.

Over-Flow error occurs when the water level is too high. It can be cleared by turning POWER switch OFF. Water is drained prior to POWER switch OFF. The tub is drained for 2 minutes if a frequency of more than 25 KHz is detected.

4. UNBALANCE ERROR – Display shows UE.

Laundry load is unbalanced, manually loosen any tangled laundry.

If only one item of clothing needs washing, such as a bathrobe or jeans, the final spin result might be unsatisfactory and an UE error message will be shown in the display. Unbalance error is cleared by POWER switch OFF and back ON.

5. WATER HEATER ERROR – Display shows HE, HE1.

HE, HE1 is displayed if the water temperature rises by 7 C or more in 1 Min or by 2 C or less 20 Min after heating process has started. The error can be cleared by turning POWER switch OFF.

6. WATER PRESSURE SWITCH ERROR – Display shows 1 E.

* Generated Frequency Signal of WATER LEVEL (WIL) SIW (KHz)

Normal Level = Abnormal W/L Frequency
Low Level = 30.00 Khz
High Level = 15.00 Khz

If the same signal is detected for more than 5 seconds, it is a PRESSURE SWITCH Error. When this error occurs the drain pump will operate for 3 min. and the display will show 1 E indicating a pressure switch error.

7. ABNORMAL WATER TEMPERATURE ERROR- Display shows cE.

e.g. If the water temperature is 50 C or more, during a Delicate or Wool cycle.

At the time of initial water supply, if the water temperature is not appropriate, the display will show cE. This error can be cleared by POWER SWITCH OFF.

8. WATER LEAKAGE ERROR – Display shows 11 E.

Water Leakage error occurs when the water drains naturally, (by leakage) after the washing program starts.

9. THERMISTOR ERROR – Display shows tE.

This error occurs when the Thermistor circuit is abnormal or a voltage of O.2v or below or, 4.5v and over is detected. This error can be cleared by POWER switch OFF.

10. MOTOR RESTRICTION ERROR- Display shows 3E.

Hall Senior is sensed every SOOms. 1 second after motor starts to work.

If data of hall sensor is less than 2 (2RPM), the Washing motor will stop at once.

During Washing and Rinsing when a motor restriction is sensed, the motor stops and then proceeds to the next water -flow action. If the motor stops working and this happens in one direction ten times, “3E” Error is displayed.

During dehydrating. when a motor restriction is sensed. the motor stops working and then returns to the initial stage of the dehydration unbalance sensing cycle. After ten times, “3E” Error isdisplayed, When the motor Is told to stop because of an operating function. no error is shown.

Power 81W OFF can clear the motor restriction error.

11. OVER CURRENT ERROR – Display shows 8E.

IPM fault signal (this is caused by the overload of the MICOM INTO during motor action).

IPM: Integrated power module. The IPM controls the motor.

If the fault (low signal) happens to be sensed even once during the washing/rinsing stage, the motor stops immediately. However, during the dehydrating stage the signal is to be sensed, when the number of signals reads more than 6 per 500ms during the Washing or Rinsing cycle action.

If the motor stops working, in one direction ten times, “8E” Error is displayed.

During dehydrating, when the overload is sensed, the motor stops working at once and then feeds back to the initial stage of the dehydration unbalance sensing. When the feed back has occcurred twice, Error “8E” is displayed during the dehydrating unbalance sensing, No error happens by overload sensing. When it happens at more than 800rpm, the process is stopped compulsorily. Power Switch OFF can clear the overload error.

It would appear that we are all experiencing the same issues with Samsung Error Codes so lets see if we can resolve that with an update.

Let’s place our washing machine into Test Mode.

TEST MODE

1. Driving Compartment Test Mode
A. Hold down “ 1” and “ 2” keys simultaneously and then press POWER SWITCH “ 4” on.
(Whole lamps turn on and display now shows “ t1” after 3 Seconds.)

B. The driving compartment can be tested when you press “ 3” key right after entering
into the initial stage of the TEST MODE.

• Driving Compartment Test
Pre-wash VALVE ON(0.3sec) → OFF(0.3sec) → COLD VALVE ON(0.3sec) → [OFF(0.3sec) →
HOT VALVE ON (0.3sec) : OPTION ] → OFF(0.3sec) → Rinse VALVE ON(0.3sec) → OFF(0.3sec) →
Pump MOTOR ON(0.3sec) → OFF(0.3sec) → MOTOR Left (0.5sec) → OFF(0.5 sec) →
MOTOR Right (0.5sec) → OFF(0.3sec) → HEATER RELAY ON(0.3sec) → OFF(0.3sec) → DOOR OPEN
(Function continues when door is closed)

2. THERMISTOR TEST MODE
A. Hold down “ 1” and “ 2” keys simultaneously and then press POWER S/W “ 4” on.
(Whole lamps turn on and display show “ t1” after 3 Seconds.)
B. Press the “ 1” key and display shows “ t2”
C. Press the “ 3” key and display shows the inside temperature of tub.

I don’t have access to this appliance so we need someone to confirm that this test procedure works.

Come on everyone, now is the time for you to shine. Anyone who can back up this test procedure with working evidence gets a free back link to their favourite web site.

For a samsung front load washer wf306bhw and we are getting error code wf. Do you know what that is?

Spare Parts Pro September 11, 2009 at 3:47 pm

wf is not a known error code for Samsung. Having said that it could mean water frequency. This means there could have been an interruption in water supply. Blocked inline filter or sticking water solenoid valve. Error code 4E. To reset try pressing the start/pause button.

I have a Samsung Washer-Dryer WD J1255C and I keep getting the error msg 13E when switch it on, can you please advise what I can do?

Spare Parts Pro October 7, 2009 at 3:45 pm

It would appear that some of our readers are getting error codes that aren’t found in the Samsung data sheets. This is not to say they don’t exist, it’s just I haven’t been made aware of them yet. I will post back here to update you all. If you need individual help on repairs why not lodge a support ticket at our new help desk system at Spare-Parts-Pro.com.

My samsung washing machine drains water from the drain pipe as soon as i fill it from the pipe….it is immediate….so there is never any water for the clothes, any clues?
thanks

Spare Parts Pro October 12, 2009 at 10:50 am

Does your model display error codes. It sounds as if your machine is going into safe mode hence the draining of water. It could be either the pressure switch has failed or the heater and or thermal cut out failure. You can test these components with a multimeter by testing for continuity.

rar October 19, 2009 at 11:45 am

check to make sure the drain hose is not lower than the water level in the machine. It might be cyphoning due to gravity

Spare Parts Pro October 19, 2009 at 12:10 pm

That’s actually a good point. We can tend to overlook the obvious. As a service engineer in the field that would be the first things we would check.

alexander beresford November 1, 2009 at 6:44 pm

Neil November 4, 2009 at 2:30 pm

Hi. I have a Samsung J1453S washing machine and keep getting a 4E error. The water is feed is fine and the prewash works fills the machine. The 4E error occurs after that.

I’ve checked the two water pipes and they both seem OK too. Could the problem be with the valve and is there any way for me to test this? If the problem is with the valve, how long would it take to order one?

Thanks

Linda November 10, 2009 at 11:56 am

I get the HE1 error code every time I use the washing machine now. How do I fix the underlying problem?
thanks
Linda

Spare Parts Pro November 10, 2009 at 3:05 pm

Could be the water inlet solenoid valve is sticking.
There is a way to test this yourself but it is far to dangerous for me to publicly announce here.
Use a multimeter to test you are getting volts to the component, then check the resistance of the coil. We are not interested in the actual reading but whether you get one or not.
Also, the inlet water hose has a little inline filter in the end of the hose fitting. Check that the filter is not silted up.

Neil November 18, 2009 at 11:31 am

Thanks for your help.

It turns out that the prewash valve on the left gets power, but the one on the right doesn’t. It seems, although I’m not sure, that the machine throws the 4E error when the process should switch from the left valve to the right.

Quintus Giliomee November 26, 2009 at 8:04 am

My Samsung WD7704R8S washer/dryer gives the error HE2 whenever I want to start drying my clothes. Normally after about 4 minutes of running it will stop and the code HE2 will show.

J L November 27, 2009 at 3:17 pm

I am getting the 3E error code.
It came up first during a normal wash. After investigating, We could not get the machine to do a spin at all. However, when we set it to do a wash cycle, it appears to start washing, ie, fills up, the drum rotates a few times, then suddenly it brings up the error possible about 10 minutes into the cycle.
It starts to dump the water but stops before it has finished. Turn off, turn on and set up a spin to remove the rest of the water and then it comes up with the error again.

My Samsung Big Wash is showing error code 5E-have changed the pumps but seems to have made no difference-pls help!

Spare Parts Pro December 15, 2009 at 9:52 am

The error code 5E although related to the drain pump may not necessarily be where the fault is at. What it is telling you that the water level has not dropped within a specified time normally 10 minutes or so. It gets this from the pressure switch. The switch detects the level of water. Either the pressure switch is at fault or water is not being pumped down out through the drain hose. Allow the drain hose to drain into a shallow bucket while testing to see if the pump does actually switch off.

When i switch on my sumsung washing machine model # p1453s its stuck on 2h and none of the bottons work. What could be the problem help this machine is pretty new:(

Dan February 28, 2010 at 7:29 am

Error de1 – Seems to mean that the Door cannot lock. Previously I had to unlock the door using the manual orange cable down near the lint filter. Since then it must have come loose inside so I pushed the orange cable back into the machine and heard a dull ‘click’ near the lock. No more DE1 error!

Trish February 28, 2010 at 10:08 pm

I get an error message L-E. Can’t find it in the owners manuel. closest thing was LE which I disconnected the inlet hoses and cleaned them. I start a wash, water fills for 30 seconds machine stops and continues to give the same error code. Any advise?

Samsung J1453S washer fault E5 manuals says – debris filter requires clearing – cleared filter at base of machine, machine then completed spin cycle, however once set to wash cycle upon drain stopped & E5 reappeared. Is there a reset

mark March 5, 2010 at 2:20 pm

I have a q1657v with a error 3e how do I fix it tried turning off to reset no good error code keeps coming back please help

Spare Parts Pro March 6, 2010 at 1:26 pm

There is no h2 error code but there is HE2 error code which means ‘No Heat’.

Spare Parts Pro March 6, 2010 at 1:29 pm

With the power off and disconnected from the wall socket, take the lid off of the top of the washer and identify the interlock.
You should be able to move the latch over to enable the door to be released. Make sure there is no water in the tub. Drain that water out through the filter outlet at the base.

Spare Parts Pro March 6, 2010 at 1:32 pm

Error Code UE is out of balance. Normally because the clothes are too wet. Draining issue possibly.

Spare Parts Pro March 6, 2010 at 1:38 pm

Error Code DE is Door Open.

Spare Parts Pro March 6, 2010 at 2:22 pm

All error codes can be cleared by powering down the machine. That is, power switch off and switch off at the mains. Leave for atleast 1 minute and power back up.

Chris March 12, 2010 at 11:12 am

Hi
My parents have a J1453S which recently aquired a short in the wiring. As you can imagine the machine went nuts and gave a number of error codes. Short in the wiring has been rectifide and machine turned off at the mains for ‘resetting’ codes. Now all we get is dE which we know is door open. Unfortunately the door is closed but every time we try it we get the same error. I’m guessing something has fried during the short and wonder if you would know what we should/could test/replace. Do these things have replaceable chips? Apart from a bit of carbon build up the door sensor appears to be fine (is it testable). My parents are disabled and really cant afford a new machine or pay a professional. Any help gratefully received. Cheers.

Spare Parts Pro March 13, 2010 at 12:56 am

#Chris – Did you try the Test procedure detailed at the end of this post. If you have can you report your findings here.
I am not aware of error code ‘dE’ but if it is the door open then this is down to the door interlock. What is the door sensor, can you explain.

Spare Parts Pro March 13, 2010 at 1:03 am

#Mat – With a suitable mutlimeter check the heater to see if it has gone open circuit. I f you get a reading of around 30ohms then I would say that is fine. These heaters have a built in NTC device that has physical characteristics that cause it to behave irrradically. The thermal inertia of the device can cause it to give wrong readings. Take some readings before making any purchasing decisions.

Chris March 13, 2010 at 2:31 am

Hi, Thanks for the prompt reply. Yeah we tried the test, assuming button ’1′ (Program) ’2′ (Temp) and ’3′ (Spin) read from left to right of the machine we pressed ’1′ & ’2′ then power on. All lights come on as described however we had to press button ’5′ (Delay Start) to get t1 to appear. We also managed to get t2? and t3? to appear as well. Any chance you can clarify buttons pressed by name as opposed to number or give a diagram of what you call ’1′ ’2′ ’3′ etc It may well be our buttons are different to yours. Great help if you could just to make sure we’re getting it right our end. Anyway, at t1 we seemed to lose something and the display reverts back to dE and the test self terminates. Now according to the manual’s ‘troubleshooting’. Error displayed-dE … Solution-Close the door. We try and tell the machine the door is closed but it just won’t listen. As for the sensor I actually meant the lock :/ Sorry for confusing you. I took the casing off and all looks fine appart from heat discolouration .. the copper switch inside the lock has gone blue and there was carbon build up on the point of contact which I’ve cleaned. Is there a way to test the lock out of the machine assuming it’s an electro-magnetic lock? Everything we try always reverts back to the code dE. All the pumps seemed to be working when it was having it’s hissy fit.. all it would do at one stage was fill and empty simultaneousl. The short by the way was underneath the machine. It would seem that over the last 2 yrs the wires supplying the drain pump had rubbed together and finally broke through their insulation. Melting themselves together. I only found the short by accident!! Any more info you need I will gladly supply. Thanks again for your time. Chris.

sam March 13, 2010 at 2:45 am

we have a samsung j845 washing machine that shows 5E error, we tried the above mentioned suggestion (power on/off) but it doesnt work, what whould we do?

Spare Parts Pro March 13, 2010 at 11:26 am

Wow! Great explanation. I sure hope our readers are getting some value out of this because there are some real gems amongst the comments. I am not familiar with this model but what would be really helpful is if you could take a picture of the front of the machine so I can see how it all fits with the test features. It will give me a better understanding. If this is possible then start a support ticket on our help desk and submit the image. We could possibly set up a forum post with details of how we go about resolving this. My support desk is http://support.spare-parts-pro.com . Once you have submitted your ticket I will then be able to send you a circuit diagram of the door interlock. This will allow you to better understand its operation. It is not how you think. I wouldn’t mind betting you need a new interlock ;~)

I have a Samsung P1453 washing machine, when i put on a wash it works for about 10mins and then the drum starts rattling as tho something is stuck underneath, the timer doesn’t move and neither does the drum it just rattles. i’ve had to manually drain the washing machine 3 times now and empty the washer myself.. I have 3 kids and am desperate to try and fix it asap. Please can you give me some advice on fixing it myself or does it sound like someone needs to come out. (really hope not!)

Sandy March 14, 2010 at 12:15 pm

I have a Q1435(C/S/V) washing machine (Samsung) and it comes up with the error code 8E, which is not in the instruction book. What does this error code mean and how can I fix it?

Spare Parts Pro March 22, 2010 at 10:27 pm

Error Code 8E is in the error code list in the article entry It is at point 11. It is to do with an overload on the motor due to inbalance. Someties if the wash load is soaked in water it can stick to the side of the drum and cause it to go out of balance. To cancel the error just power off. Leave it for a number of minutes for the flash memory to depleat. Then power back up and continue the cycle.

Spare Parts Pro March 22, 2010 at 10:38 pm

Is it possible that the belt is slipping. It could be that that is giving the vibration. Try running up the machine without any load in the drum.

Spare Parts Pro March 22, 2010 at 10:57 pm

Power off and leave it off so that the flash memory can deteriate. Even to the extent of switch off at the mains socket. The power up again.

Mark March 29, 2010 at 11:14 am

Hi,
I Have a Samsung J845 washer and I have just replaced the drive belt. However the motor will not run now and I keep getting fault code 4E come up. When the old belt came off it did damage a couple of wires on the motor which I have repaired though. Is it possible to test the motor only? When you turn on to any cycle all it does is run the pump for a while then fault out.
cheers Mark

My Samsung Washing Machine WF7606SUV after a few minutes of work appears up error code ‘6E’

Self repair hero April 7, 2010 at 2:49 pm

Hi chaps, I have a samsung p1453, the waste water pump was broken (plastic rotor came off) so i ordered one £55 and fit it, the machine is still broken, and it’s giving me the reading 1E, apparently some error with the pressure valve!

Any idea how I can fix it?

Thanks guys, need to fix this today cos i’m actually working on mumsy’s machine before I go back to Uni.

Vanessa April 8, 2010 at 12:21 am

Hi,
I have a Samsung J845, and the Error 4E is stuck and wont go away. i have done all the things you have suggested and nothing woks. it wont complete any circle with out coming up with 4E, but Rinse and spin works fine,??help

Sandy April 8, 2010 at 12:34 pm

Thank you for your reply ref ’8E’ error code. I have powered off the machine & unpluged the machine from the wall socket for well over 24hrs but the ’8E’ error code still comes up. It seems when I put the machine into spin mode or any other programme with spin, it slighty juders & comes up with ’8E’ error code. Funny thing is the drum spins manualy (first thing I checked, thinking the drum had gone) but not in any programe. Have you any other suggestions what the problem might be? Thank you.

Spare Parts Pro April 8, 2010 at 7:43 pm

The Main PCB is designed to error check associated components. If the board senses an over current to the motor it will display error code 8E. Either the motor windings have gone down or the power circuit on the board has popped. Get a sparky to check the field windings on the motor. If it checks out ok then the main PCB has flopped. Also, have a look at the back of the motor. There shoiuld be a tacho drive. Check that the magnet inside hasn’t got a crack in it.

You may have something blocking the capillary tube leading to the pressure switch. The tue may have a hole in it so the air will not act on the switch.

Almost answered your own question with the faulty wires. Revisit that fault again and check the wires. Was it the wires to the tacho drive. You may have a faulty tacho. Put a meter across the tacho wires and turn the motor by hand. Can you generate volts.

Thanks for the help, but it turned out that when the wires broke it shorted the PCB. I replaced it already and now works great again.

Hi, my samsung washing machine is just 6 months old and yesterday an error blinked on the LCD: “LE”
I couldn’t find that on the manual. i turned off the washing machine then restarted the whole process. is it the over loaded or is it due to an electric issue? Thank you

Posible out of balance drum. The clothes may still be heavy with water and are putting the drum out of balance. Do you know that most of the water has drained away. If the water isn’t draining away and the clothes are too wet it can cause this error.

There must be an error H2 because mine also displays it can anyone tell me what it is (someone earlier on sayd the code does not exist only HE2)

Hi, Please can anyone help, I have a Samsung washing machine q1657a and it refuses to drain. I have checked all hoses and they are all clear. Occasionally the drain pump will start but stops again before the machine is empty. I can hear a solenoid clicking twice on the main board at the side of the machine but the pump won’t start. I swapped the 2 pumps around on the drain but this made no difference. I can’t seem to get hold of a circuit diagram or manual for this machine so I am stumped. Has anyone got any ideas.

My washer keeps coming up with the OE code. It will fill up with water, and won’t drain. I turn off the machine and water connections, then turn everything back on and it will run a cycle just fine. This has happened the last 4 cycles.

oe displays and my machine is beeping. Followed the instructions above . Turned power off but it starts again and continues to beep and display oe……..help!

Bonjour,

Mon Francais est non bon.
OK I don’t want to sound rude but I promise I will go away and learn a meaningful phrase in french that doesn’t show my ignorance. If anyone wants to butt in and translate the comment from Annick then please do. In the meantime I’m going to ask my mum what my reply should be.

On another note, isn’t H2 error code a heater problem. Check the heater hasn’t failed.

Please Please Help!! i have a Samsung WF7708N6W1 and just lately the error message HE2 keeps coming up and the machine stops working and i have to turn it off and restart it, is there anyway i can fix this? i have looked in the manual but there is no HE2 error message displayed in there.
your help will be appreciated

Spare Parts Pro June 21, 2010 at 3:59 pm

There is no error code HE2 although it has been reported so, a few times here. Samsung will not confirm that this code exists but I would be inclined to think it is something to do with water temperature. If you are on cold fill only your heater may have failed or the NTC device is not giving a correct reading. Check the heater still has continuaty with a multimeter.

Please help!!! My Samsung WF328 leaks while showing LO the error message. Unplugged and re-plugged it. The LO is still showing. Do you think the leak caused error message? The machine is very heavy. It is hard to check the connections in the rear.

Spare Parts Pro June 23, 2010 at 9:29 am

@steve Error Code UE is unbalanced load. You need to manually redistribute the clothes in the drum.

Martyn June 28, 2010 at 11:25 am

Hi, my new Samsung WF8602NGS keeps displaying the error code SUD?? Any ideas? Thanks

Spare Parts Pro June 29, 2010 at 8:15 am

@Martyn. I’m not familiar with this error code so we need to throw it out to the floor and see if one of our readers can answer it.

karl mellett July 1, 2010 at 11:52 am

justin July 3, 2010 at 3:00 pm

i have a samsung WF-B145N and it flashes DOOR as an error code. Obviously the door is closed so i can only assume theres something wrong with the door sensor. Any thoughts ????

Steve July 4, 2010 at 10:45 am

Hi there,
I have a Samsung Smart B124SS & the error code ’5E’ keeps coming up.
I have tried turning the power switch off & on (as you advised at the top on your common error code section), however it just comes back on again after another 15/20 minutes.
It appears to go through the wash cycle OK but does not spin.
Is there anything else i can do?
Many thanks,
Steve

Spare Parts Pro July 4, 2010 at 8:05 pm

@steve Could that be an error code ’5E’ by any chance. That’s more likely to be a problem with water draining out. If it isn’t spinning it may be because to water is not draining. Check for blockages, kinks in the drain hose etc.

Spare Parts Pro July 4, 2010 at 8:10 pm

There is probably water still in the machine. Try to drain all the water out before opening the door.

I have a brand new Samsung WF8802RPF, less than 48hrs old. Two things have happened that Samsung don’t know anything about…
First and most importantly, we tried the Air Refresh today we got error FE displayed on the screen – I don’t know if the cycle finished or not before throwing the error up. The door was locked and the code isn’t listed in the manual. Samsung “help” told us to power off – this allowed us to get the door open, and cleared the error, but can anyone please tell me what it’s all about? Did we do something wrong, or is it something we need to keep an eye on?
Secondly, the little red padlock that appears between the child-lock and audio-mute icons is not listed anywhere in the manual – it seems to be solid when the door is locked during a cycle, and flashes at all other times, even when the machine is turned off – is that normal? And why don’t Samsung mention this in their manual, so we poor end users don’t wonder if there’s a problem? Even their help line are clueless about these problems…
Thanks for any help.
