Washing Machine Error Codes

What is a washing machine error code?

Well, most modern day washing machines come equipped with a printed circuit board (PCB) that behaves like a small computer. This not only provides the program selection to operate the machine but has service information to help diagnose problems.

On your control panel facia, you may have and LED of LCD readout. During normal operation this will indicate the program selection or time to wash or even the temperature of your wash. In the event of a washing machine failure, this readout will show an error code.

If you look in the back of your user handbook you may see some examples of error codes and their meaning. Some manufacturers prefer not to divulge this information so you may have to refer to the appliance repair help blog you are now reading. We hope to bring some examples of washing machine error codes here but if your machine is not covered let us know and we may be able to help.

Some of the earlier washing machines didn’t use led / lcd readouts but and led lamps. The led lights signified an error code based on the sequence the lights where lit. They can be On, Off or Flashing.

As an example I am going to use Hotpoint WMA types of machine but only because it is one of the most popular models in the UK market.

I am getting an E60 or E70 error message on my Zanussi washing machine sometimes, but not every wash.
Any ideas? Zanussi will not help, but I do not want the expense of an engineer if I need a new machine.
Thank you

E60 is insfficient heating during wash, might be worth checking the wash heater/thermistor.

i have error code 5 on my hoover easy logic el 160 model the machine does not fill with water just not doing anything at the moment thanks for any help if possbily

Error code 5 on this type Hoover Easilogic is almost certainly the heater NTC. Hence the reason it won’t fill. The machine will always fail safe so if the heater or the NTC which is basically a thermal cutout fails it won’t fill with water. Check both the heater and the NTC device with a multimeter,.

I have an error code E60 on my electrolux washing machine – can you assist in what it is?

Spare Parts Pro June 21, 2010 at 4:02 pm

We would need a model number to confirm but E60 is likely to be water temperature. Probably the NTC device.

@noel We would need more information before we can advise correctly. If the loud bang came from the washing machine then what ever it was would have left a scorch mark. Take the cover off and look for eveidence of burning. Then come back to us with a model number.

With the door closed and the appliance on for the start of a program cycle, does the door remained locked.
