Green energy is now more affordable and practical for homes and businesses to install than in past decades. Green energy has become more realistically-priced for average consumers as various research studies by firms and academic institutions alike have made the technology smarter and streamlined production processes. In addition, as energy cost steadily increase; public approval of green energy alternatives has become greater.

Solar heating tubes are a good alternative to the conventional gas boiler heater type of units seen in nearly every property. The arguments that support this kind of green energy installation are numerous and should be considered when weighing what heating system to purchase for heating water in a residential or business structure to be built or renovated.

The answer to reducing expenditures for heating water is solar heating tubes. This is a relatively novel method that employs vacuum-sealed tubes for capturing renewable energy from the sun. The energy from the sun increases the temperature of the special fluid inside the tubes and distributes the heat in the fluid through the hot water system. This hot fluid can rise up to around 87.8 degrees celsius.

And because the tubes holding the liquid are sealed there is not a lot of regular maintenance jobs to do. The heating unit using the solar heating tube system itself, can go for virtually twenty years without ever having to be maintained, or fiddled with other than to switch the system on and off. The general lifespan of the old modeltechnology of boiler heater is thirteen years. A water heating unit utilizing solar heating tubes will last several years longer, and has an added benefit of being less expensive to use.

Conventional hot water heating systems usually come with 5 year warranties. This is five years that the property owner does not have to worry about beakdowns in the heating system while still paying for the utilities. After the five years is done, the tank could go at anytime. Another hazard of the regular hot water boilers has to do with the very purpose of the hot water heater. While safeguards on these electric appliances have improved dramatically over the last thirty years or so, gas leaks during installation and uninstallation of the conventional hot water heater can still take place. Solar heating tubes utilize the sun’s energy and not gas for heat, thus, chances of gas leakage is nill. They are filled with a special liquid that is ecologically safe so even if a leak were to somehow occur, your everyone in your house, including your pets will continue to be safe.

The power usage needed to pump water is much less than the expense of heating a 55 gallon tank of water. Hence, a system using solar heating tubes can be ran at a smaller percentage of the total power charges that comes with conventional heating equipments.

The present pipe system already in place does not have to be modified in order to work with solar heating tubes. In fact with most types of green energy the initial set-up is quite unobtrusive. It’s the same for solar heating tubes. There is not a massive amount of plumbing to be done, no expensive and hard to find pipes are used for the building itself, so this makes installation much easier than one would normallythink. Reading and researching is your first action plan. Contacting your state or county supplier, or finding an internet dealer would be your second step.

Be prepared to be overloaded with offers. With a lot of suppliers expanding their reach into the green energy segment, there are several dealers to select from. Make sure that whoever you buy your solar heating unit from is a reputable seller. For picking out suppliers, it is important to check references and to ask as many questions you need to feel at ease about your purchasing decision.

We wish you success in your implementation plans and we thank you for your willingness to learn the benefits of green energy, and specifically solar heating tubes. Reading this article is your introduction to a more energy efficient and environmentally responsible lifestyle.

There are a lot of people worrying about their finances especially the way the economy is. When the weather is cold, we all need to have the heating on and this winter just proved that point even further. There are a few options when it comes to keeping warm so why would you want to choose heating oil?

The most important factor to bear in mind is that heating oil works out cheaper than gas. And we could see even cheaper oil as there are attempts at developing a form of recyclable oil. Trials are already taking place with old cooking oil being used to heat a number of buildings. Although this doesn’t mean that you can just chuck your old heating oil into your tank, but in the future it might be a form of fuel. And you will be able to help the environment as well as save some money if this happens.

The fact that the heating oil you use is stored on your premises makes it a good choice of fuel. That means that you don’t have to worry about having your heating supply interrupted due to problems which are not your fault. If you do encounter any problems you will know that they are to do with your own system. If you remember to order enough heating oil and maintain your system then you shouldn’t have too many problems.

When it comes to safety, heating oil is probably one of the safest fuels. It does not combust even if you were to put a lighted match inside the tank. However it is not recommended that you test this theory. Oil only becomes a problem if it leaks and this is rarely a problem. If you were to experience an oil leak it would be relatively straightforward to get it dealt with, without any danger to your home or your family.

When it comes to choosing the fuel to heat your home the reasons above prove why heating oil is such a good choice.

Some people spend a lot of money heating their homes in the winter. Electricity and gas prices are very high and show no signs of coming down any time soon. Clever people are switching to heating oil as a fuel though. Cheapest heating oil can ensure everybody’s tanks remain full. Heating oil suppliers are found countrywide and can, as an example, supply heating oil Cumbria.

The act of breathing is so essential and automated that usually we will not give it any consideration. Without air and the capacity to take in air we wouldn’t have the ability to live. Vital to our health and well-being is the good quality of the air which we breathe. Frequently the good quality of that air is badly effected by pollution, cigarette smoke and dust particles. This could certainly have an undesirable effect on the well being of people that are suffering from allergen hypersensitivity and have breathing difficulties like individuals with symptoms of asthma. The good news is you can get air ionizer purifier machines which you could get to eradicate these allergens.

Undoubtedly the most important ingredient in the air that individuals inhale is the oxygen that it carries. However the air is additionally full of potentially harmful contaminants that are frequently seen with the naked eye. You have probably observed this yourself if you are in your house on a very sun-drenched day. You’ll have most likely witnessed the sun’s rays streaming via the window if you seen it at a particular angle you will have spotted the many tiny particles floating in the air. You inhale these straight into your lungs. Devices like an electrostatic air purifier can take out these dust in order that you don’t have to breathe them in. These kind of appliance can thus give excellent relief if you happen to suffer from allergy symptoms or asthma. Did you know that much of the dust is really dead human and animal skin? For those who are living with a cigarette smoker then cigarette smoke is rife with particles. Then of course you have the air pollution which comes from beyond your household from traffic exhaust. Thus maybe you should look at getting a air purifier and ionizer.

These home air cleaners function by filtering the air in your home so that there are much less particles in the air at the time you breathe it. So there’s significantly less chance of any kind of breathing or allergy difficulties getting irritated because of the tiny dust particles. Home air cleaners can be obtained starting off with smaller units which have been intended to purify the air in a single room. Larger home air cleaners can be obtained which have the capacity to cleanse the air inside your entire home. Along with filtering the contaminants from the air they’re able to even purify the air as well.

Should you be considering getting an home air cleaner then you ought to actually look into one of the HEPA machines. This stands for High Efficiency Particulate Air. As the name suggests they are efficient at filtering out more of the particles than other types of units. They can protect you against particles in the air as small as 3 microns in size and are able to capture 99.9% them. You can also get ozone air cleansers but some investigation advises that these might perhaps be bad for you. Therefore I would suggest sticking with a HEPA unit. It might be wise to see the machine functioning before you decide to purchase it as some can be quite noisy.

In society today, more people have allergies and respiratory problems than ever before. With the environment around us constantly being filled with pollutants, its difficult to avoid being subjected to various elements. We might not be able to do anything about the pollutants outside, but we can do something about the inside of our homes, which is why carpet and upholstery cleaners are such a good idea. If you suffer with asthma or allergies, keeping your home exceptionally clean is one of the most important things you can do.

Many do not realise the pollutants that live within the four walls of our home and these can trigger a variety of allergies quickly and suddenly. Dust mites are one of the most common problems in the home and these little creatures can bury themselves in bedding, sofas, carpets, realistically, any type of fabric, so it is particularly important that homeowners try and reduce the dust mite allergens in their homes. The best way to do this is to hire carpet and upholstery cleaners who will take care of all your cleaning needs and ensure that each area of your home receives a thorough, deep clean.

Cleaning Your Carpets Frequently

All carpets in the home can harbour dust mites and these are what cause human allergies. One solution might be to have laminate flooring in your home, as this won’t trigger any allergies. The main problem with laminate flooring is that it just isn’t inviting enough, and on a cold winter night, the last thing you want to be doing is stepping on a cold wooden floor. For those that love carpets but find they cause allergies, the best advice is to hire carpet and upholstery cleaners on a regular basis. Your cleaners can visit weekly to keep on top of dust mites and your home will receive a thorough, deep clean.

Don’t Forget To Clean The Upholstery Too

The upholstery in a home often gets neglected, but unclean upholstery can cause many respiratory problems without even realising it. Upholstery is like an allergen city, with cushions, bedding and sofas all harbouring the pesky little dust mites, so this is worth bearing in mind. Dust mites in upholstery can cause many allergies and that’s why your best bet is to speak to upholstery cleaners.

There are many health benefits when you decide to get your carpets and upholstery cleaned, and it is worth remembering that people can become susceptible to dust allergies at any time in their lives, so the sooner you do something about it, the better it is for everyone. Hire professional carpet and upholstery cleaners and see the difference it can make.

We supply Zanussi Spares for all types of Zanussi Domestic Appliances. Over the years it has become apparent that the most popular Zanussi Appliance has been the Zanussi Dishwasher.

We have been supplying Zanussi Dishwasher Parts for the longest time and find that the parts that fail the most are the internal parts of the cabinet. The plastic parts inside the workings of the dishwasher are exposed to the harsh environment of the dishwasher because of both the hot water and the salt and detergent being used during the wash cycle.

Apart from the dishwasher racks themselves your are likely to want to change the basket wheels. The plastic is a form of polythene and easily breaks down. What you will find is the axle of the wheel will wear and the wheels will fall off as you pull the dishwasher rack in and out.

Other things to consider is the filter system. In the base of the dishwasher is a dual filter system. Firstly you have the large circular disc filter. This is used to prevent the heavy solids from being dragged through the water system. Then below this large filter is a fine mesh filter. This sits at the input side of the wash pump. This allows clean water to pump around the dishwasher.

This filter is made of a similar plastic that will corrode fairly easily. After 4 or 5 years constant use you are probably looking at changing it. If you service your dishwasher on a regular basis you will very likely get many more years of service out of it.

Have you ever wondered why the dishwasher has stopped heating the water.

Well, things are not always what they seem. I once got asked ‘How to Test a Dishwasher Thermal Cut Out‘.

What was the thinking behind this question. Was this a misdiagnosis and that the customer was thinking they had a fault with one thing but in actual effect it was something else. This is what I call a leading question and I will try to answer it for you here.

Depending on the make and model of your dishwasher, you may have one or more devices that protect the appliance from over heating. That is a Thermal Cut Out or fuse and an NTC Device.

Although at first they would appear to be the same thing, they certainly don’t act the same. Lets have a picture.

Testing Dishwasher NTC components

Some dishwashers are fitted with a NTC (Negative Temperature Coefficient) device to sense the temperature of the water.

Variously known as Thermister, Sensor, Thermostat, Temperature Sensor, Temperature Probe, Probe Feeler – this device works by exhibiting an electrical resistance value which reduces with an increase in temperaure.

Simply put; if the water is hot the resitance value is low and if the water is cold the resistance value is high. All the machine has to do is figure out what the water temperature is by looking at the resistive value of the NTC.

The appliance control module is configured to compare the external resistive value of the NTC with internally pre-configured set-points. Depending on the resistive value of the NTC the module will provide the appropriate control function for the water heater.

How to test the NTC

For this you will need access to a multimeter.

1. Remove the NTC from the appliance.
2. Connect the NTC to the multimeter set to Ohms x1000 and note the reading. This should be in the order of 70 to 80kOhms(at 60 degs F).
3. Boil the kettle and fill a cup.
4. Place the body of the NTC into the cup of hot water – do not submerge it.
5. Note that the resistance value starts to change. Leave the NTC in the water for about 5 minutes because these devices have a long dwell time.
6. After about 5 minutes the NTC reading should have changed to approximately 90Ohms
7. Once you have obtained the readings place the NTC in some cold water; preferably with a couple of ice cubes; just to make sure the water temperature is is below ambient.

Why do I need to do this?
This allows the NTC to slowly restore to ambient temperature from a cooler place. By design the NTC is allowed to retain heat so that device does not cause the control module to keep switching the water heater on and off – called hunting. If you re-fit a warm NTC to the appliance and do a test run the appliance will think the water is still hot enough and the program will probably loose itself and not cycle correctly if at all. You will be led to believe that there is something else wrong with the appliance.

If your results compare favourably with the above test then the NTC is working correctly. If not it is likely the NTC is defective. This infomation is relative to Part Nos: 481228268051 – Temperature Sensor - and are available from our on line catalogue www.spare-parts-pro.com.

Note: Appliances that use an NTC can sometimes loose their way and the appliance will become stuck on a cycle. After testing the NTC run the machine in diagnostics mode to reset the program.

Changing a Hotpoint washing machine bearing is no different than changing any other washing machine bearings.
Things to consider before you attempt a bearing change.

You have the time it takes to make a bearing change. Your partner may not have the patience that you have.

Do you have the correct bearing for your appliance. – Guess what, I have built a appliance spare parts search facility to help you search by appliance make and model.

What about tools. Do you have enough of the correct tools in order to carry out a suitable washing machine bearing change. My favourite tool is the Ball Pane Hammer 2lb

Space you need lots of it. The kitchen floor is not always a suitable environment for starting your drum bearing change.

When left with the thought of choosing Washing Machine Spare Parts some of you may be being left out in the cold.We know a lot of you are using google to eek out your quest for washing machine repair help but a lot of the time you are being let down.

OK we’re not naming names here but one spare parts supplier in particular is duping their customers into the belief that they are stocking all known spares. They know who they are. You my customers know who they are because you have told me. Well I’ll tell you, they don’t keep stock of spares, they are drop shipping. There is nothing wrong with that, we do it. But come on, tell your customer they will have to wait for the spare part to be delivered because you ain’t got it in stock.

Try it I dare you. Call them and place an order, then come back to us and place the same order. Call Tony on 01492530627 now and get up front genuine help and advice on choosing washing machine spares. We can tell you straight out how long it will take for you to get your part, if it is in stock and if not, the time to delivery. You will even get advice on how to affect your repair.

Apart from all that, we need to let you guys know that we have almost completed the data entry for the spare-parts-pro.com web site. The idea being that rather than scrolling through hundreds of washing machine spares, you only have to enter or select from three drop down boxes to reveal all associated spares parts to your particular washing machine.

It doesn’t have to be washing machines, it could be a dishwasher or cooker but you get the picture.

#################
My google optimised blatant link anchor text for washing machine spare parts is right here in side this box thing. Oh ye! How did the testing go, what results did you find?

Samsung Washing Machine Error Code Overview

SAMSUNG WASHING MACHINES, ERROR FUNCTIONS

When an error occurs, the alarm noise will sound and the error code displayed in the program window. Listed below is a series of error codes you may or may not see for your model of Samsng Washing Machine. The errors are shown as blinking in O.5 second intervals until the error status has cleared. In this case, all the driving devices are turned off until the error is cleared.

1. WATER SUPPLY ERROR – Display shows 4E.

Water Supply Error occurs when water level frequency does not show changes more than 100Hz or water is not supplied up to the preset water level after 10 Minutes or more at the time of initial water supply. The error status can be cleared by turning the POWER switch OFF and back ON.

2. WATER DRAIN ERROR – Display shows 5E.

5E is displayed if the water level frequency detected is 25 KHz or less in the initial phase of the UNB -detecting cycle. The Water Drain error can be cleared by turning POWER SW OFF and back ON.

3. OVER-FLOW ERROR – Display shows oE.

Over-Flow error occurs when the water level is too high. It can be cleared by turning POWER switch OFF. Water is drained prior to POWER switch OFF. The tub is drained for 2 minutes if a frequency of more than 25 KHz is detected.

4. UNBALANCE ERROR – Display shows UE.

Laundry load is unbalanced, manually loosen any tangled laundry.

If only one item of clothing needs washing, such as a bathrobe or jeans, the final spin result might be unsatisfactory and an UE error message will be shown in the display. Unbalance error is cleared by POWER switch OFF and back ON.

5. WATER HEATER ERROR – Display shows HE, HE1.

HE, HE1 is displayed if the water temperature rises by 7 C or more in 1 Min or by 2 C or less 20 Min after heating process has started. The error can be cleared by turning POWER switch OFF.

6. WATER PRESSURE SWITCH ERROR – Display shows 1 E.

* Generated Frequency Signal of WATER LEVEL (WIL) SIW (KHz)

Normal Level = Abnormal W/L Frequency
Low Level = 30.00 Khz
High Level = 15.00 Khz

If the same signal is detected for more than 5 seconds, it is a PRESSURE SWITCH Error. When this error occurs the drain pump will operate for 3 min. and the display will show 1 E indicating a pressure switch error.

7. ABNORMAL WATER TEMPERATURE ERROR- Display shows cE.

e.g. If the water temperature is 50 C or more, during a Delicate or Wool cycle.

At the time of initial water supply, if the water temperature is not appropriate, the display will show cE. This error can be cleared by POWER SWITCH OFF.

8. WATER LEAKAGE ERROR – Display shows 11 E.

Water Leakage error occurs when the water drains naturally, (by leakage) after the washing program starts.

9. THERMISTOR ERROR – Display shows tE.

This error occurs when the Thermistor circuit is abnormal or a voltage of O.2v or below or, 4.5v and over is detected. This error can be cleared by POWER switch OFF.

10. MOTOR RESTRICTION ERROR- Display shows 3E.

Hall Senior is sensed every SOOms. 1 second after motor starts to work.

If data of hall sensor is less than 2 (2RPM), the Washing motor will stop at once.

During Washing and Rinsing when a motor restriction is sensed, the motor stops and then proceeds to the next water -flow action. If the motor stops working and this happens in one direction ten times, “3E” Error is displayed.

During dehydrating. when a motor restriction is sensed. the motor stops working and then returns to the initial stage of the dehydration unbalance sensing cycle. After ten times, “3E” Error isdisplayed, When the motor Is told to stop because of an operating function. no error is shown.

Power 81W OFF can clear the motor restriction error.

11. OVER CURRENT ERROR – Display shows 8E.

IPM fault signal (this is caused by the overload of the MICOM INTO during motor action).

IPM: Integrated power module. The IPM controls the motor.

If the fault (low signal) happens to be sensed even once during the washing/rinsing stage, the motor stops immediately. However, during the dehydrating stage the signal is to be sensed, when the number of signals reads more than 6 per 500ms during the Washing or Rinsing cycle action.

If the motor stops working, in one direction ten times, “8E” Error is displayed.

During dehydrating, when the overload is sensed, the motor stops working at once and then feeds back to the initial stage of the dehydration unbalance sensing. When the feed back has occcurred twice, Error “8E” is displayed during the dehydrating unbalance sensing, No error happens by overload sensing. When it happens at more than 800rpm, the process is stopped compulsorily. Power Switch OFF can clear the overload error.

Samsung Washing Machine Spare Parts

It would appear that we are all experiencing the same issues with Samsung Error Codes so lets see if we can resolve that with an update.

Let’s place our washing machine into Test Mode.

TEST MODE

1. Driving Compartment Test Mode
A. Hold down “ 1” and “ 2” keys simultaneously and then press POWER SWITCH “ 4” on.
(Whole lamps turn on and display now shows “ t1” after 3 Seconds.)

B. The driving compartment can be tested when you press “ 3” key right after entering
into the initial stage of the TEST MODE.

• Driving Compartment Test
Pre-wash VALVE ON(0.3sec) → OFF(0.3sec) → COLD VALVE ON(0.3sec) → [OFF(0.3sec) →
HOT VALVE ON (0.3sec) : OPTION ] → OFF(0.3sec) → Rinse VALVE ON(0.3sec) → OFF(0.3sec) →
Pump MOTOR ON(0.3sec) → OFF(0.3sec) → MOTOR Left (0.5sec) → OFF(0.5 sec) →
MOTOR Right (0.5sec) → OFF(0.3sec) → HEATER RELAY ON(0.3sec) → OFF(0.3sec) → DOOR OPEN
(Function continues when door is closed)

2. THERMISTOR TEST MODE
A. Hold down “ 1” and “ 2” keys simultaneously and then press POWER S/W “ 4” on.
(Whole lamps turn on and display show “ t1” after 3 Seconds.)
B. Press the “ 1” key and display shows “ t2”
C. Press the “ 3” key and display shows the inside temperature of tub.

I don’t have access to this appliance so we need someone to confirm that this test procedure works.

Come on everyone, now is the time for you to shine. Anyone who can back up this test procedure with working evidence gets a free back link to their favourite web site.

We get this asked all the time. How do I remove the oven door?

It’s actually quite difficult to explain this over the phone and I get asked this virtually on a daily basis. I mean, how do you explain what an hoofadoofa is and what the roundy bit on the twisty mode is. People naturally have their on interpretation of the names of the different parts are so it can get confusing, so lets have a picture.

Typical Oven Door Hinge

This is only an example of what a hinge might look like, this one is from a Hotpoint Cooker and yours might look completely different but the principle is the same.

Firstly open door fully and then place the metal clips, part B, which form part of the hinge arm, part A, onto the hook on the under side of the hinge arm, part C. Once you have done this you have then locked the hinges in position but be aware that the hinge springs are now fully loaded.

Now you can remove the door as illustrated in the second picture here. There are two movements here but you must hold the door by the sides. Do not hold the door by the handle because once the door is off the oven you will have the weight of the door on the handle, it will break off and your door will be in a thousand bits on the kitchen floor. I have no problem in supplying you with a new door but you don’t want to part with 100 quid at this stage.

While holding the door at the sides, lift it to 45 deg and then pull it towards you. You should now be able to safely remove the oven door.

Don’t you just hate that when it happens. Now your clothes are stuck inside your washing machine. Don’t be tempted to prise the door open just because Jonny’s boots are in there, it will cost you the price of a door latch mechanism, a door interlock or door handle. If the door interlock fails then this could keep you from openeing the door. Modern day washing machines have a door interlock that prevent the door from opening when the motor is still turning or when water is still in the drum of the machine.

Thing to do is remove the drain hose from the outlet stand pipe and bring it down to floor level so that the water can drain from the tub. If this is not an option, then remove the stopper from the drain pump filter at the base of the washing machine and let the water drain say onto a tray or soemthing similar. Aware that there is about a gallon and a half of water or 7 litres in new money. so it will require a couple of trips.

Draining the water releases the pressure switch activating on the door interlock, then the door can be opened. Do this while you send the misses out for more larger so you get to make as much mess as you like without getting an ear bashing. This isa tried and tested method.

The washing machine is very noisy.

Although difficult to describe, the noise you hear is probably down to worn bearings. The bearings will fail mainly due to the fact that the bearing seal has failed, water will then pass to the bearings and start to break down the lubricant.
With the back off your machine, remove the drive belt from the main motor and drum pulley. Spin the drum by hand. Is it lumpy and noisey. Have you any lateral movement of the drum when you try to lift it from the front of the drum.
Other things to consider is run up the motor while the belt is removed.

Does the drum turn or spin.

A washing machine has a motor that turns the drum. Depending on what make of model you have, it will be fitted with either a commutator motor (one that has carbon brushes) or an induction motor (a brushless motor).
On first inspection you may not be able to identify what motor you have. If you have never seen a carbon brush it might be worth checking out the pictures we have available listed under the relavent machine section or see sample motor carbon brushes.
If you suspect the motor failure, first check to see if you have a brush type motor. If so carefully remove the brush from the motor. Lots of carbon dust in and around the brushes may indicate excessive wear. Check the length of the carbon within the carbon brush holder. Anything less that 10mm then change them.

What is a washing machine error code?

Well, most modern day washing machines come equipped with a printed circuit board (PCB) that behaves like a small computer. This not only provides the program selection to operate the machine but has service information to help diagnose problems.

On your control panel facia, you may have and LED of LCD readout. During normal operation this will indicate the program selection or time to wash or even the temperature of your wash. In the event of a washing machine failure, this readout will show an error code.

If you look in the back of your user handbook you may see some examples of error codes and their meaning. Some manufacturers prefer not to divulge this information so you may have to refer to the appliance repair help blog you are now reading. We hope to bring some examples of washing machine error codes here but if your machine is not covered let us know and we may be able to help.

Some of the earlier washing machines didn’t use led / lcd readouts but and led lamps. The led lights signified an error code based on the sequence the lights where lit. They can be On, Off or Flashing.

As an example I am going to use Hotpoint WMA types of machine but only because it is one of the most popular models in the UK market.

FAULT DESCRIPTION A B C D
No Spin ON OFF OFF OFF
Possible Door Interlock OFF ON OFF OFF
Failed to fill in time ON ON OFF OFF
Failed to empty in time ON OFF ON OFF
Thermistor has no signal OFF ON ON OFF
Speed Controller or tacho ON ON ON OFF
Motor / tacho out of circuit ON OFF ON ON

OK We all have a washing machine in our homes. Well nearly all of us, but at some point in our lives and not the washing machines, we may have to attempt to replace the bearings in our washing machine.

As an engineer I often get asked ‘How do I fit a Bearing in a Washing Machine?‘ by friends and family. So I figured and should show all you guys how I do it by writing this small article right here.

First things first. You have got to pick a good day on which you are going to attempt this. If you are new to this, you will have to give your self approximately 8 hours. In real time this is 2 days of anyones time. Hotpoint engineers can do this job in about 2 hours or so but this is not a race as we only want to do this the once.

I’m assuming you already have a decent tool kit otherwise you wouldn’t be attempting this washing machine bearing change. A decent screwdriver set, a few open ended spanners – 10mm, 13mm, 17mm, 19mm – and a decent hammer, a big one, no lets make that a really big one. As an apprentice engineer, brute force and ignorance was my biggest asset and it still carries to this day so don’t be afraid to use a big hammer.

We mentioned time didn’t we. We need to pick a day of the week and since most peoples free time is a weekend, lets pick a Saturday. That’s best because I work a Saturday and if you get stuck you can always give me a ring. The next thing to do is research the type of bearings you will need, so establish what the model number of your washing machine is by identifying the rating plate. Its on the inside of the door.

Once we know this either send me an email and I will identify the bearings for you or look them up in our spare parts catalog. Either way we need to know we can get the bearings and the drum seal before we attempt the repair.

Below I have included a drawing of a typical washing machine drum. This will help you identify the parts and aid your attempt and dismantling the washing machine.

As you well know, identifying Zanussi Washing Machine Motor Brushes is quite difficult because the manufacturer took it upon themselves to design a washing machine that was produced with different types of motor.

Electrolux, who are the people who own the brand for Zanussi amongst others, used three different types of motor. These are SOLE, FHP and CESET for washing machines and washer dryers with spin speeds between 650 rpm and 1600 rpm.

Each type of motor may have been alternatively fitted to the same machines during production but are perfectly interchangeable with each other. The only thing we need to know is, we fit the correct carbon brush set to the appropriate motor. Hopefully the table below will help in identifying your correct brush set.

If and only if you have correctly identified your zanussi parts would I suggest you get on over to our zanussi washing machine spares catalogue to see if your motor brushes are available.

When your Dishwasher will not continue the cycle - Who ya gonna call - The Dishwasher Repair Man that's who.

Your dishwasher, when correctly installed, can give you years of uninterrupted hassle free washing and cleaning. Then one day you go to switch on your trusty dishwasher and nothing happens.

What’s the first thing you going to do to fix this annoyance. Well I guess you might find the answer right here on the appliance repair help site but don’t reach for the phone book just yet because this might be something you can fix your self.

I’ll explain. Modern day dishwashers like those manufactured by Bosch and you can include Siemens and Neff in that have a built in safety feature protecting the dishwasher against flooding. The technical term is ‘Anti Flood Device’. There are other manufacturers who provide the same features but for now I’m only going to talk about the Bosch type machines.

In the base of the dishwasher in the plinth there is a float switch. This is your ‘Anti Flood Device’. In the event of your dishwasher over filling, the plinth fills with water, the float rises and actuates the switch. On a Bosch dishwasher this switch will do two things.

Firstly, it will send a signal to the programmer device to notify there is a fault and output a message in the form of a code to some sort of display.

Secondly, the pressure switch acts as the water level indicator for the sump of the dishwasher so when the water level rises the pressure switch will activate the drain pump.

So before you consider throwing good money at new dishwasher, try doing a bit of fault finding your self and you might save yourself a ton of money.

Just a quick update to this ‘Dishwasher will not continue the cycle’ article. There appears to be a common thread in the comments below. Most faults can be referred to the fact that the Anti Flood Overflow device has activated. I have included an image here to show what the anti flood may look like in a Bosch SGS69A02GB/20.

Inside all air conditioning units is a chemical called a refrigerant. The refrigerant changes to different states (low pressure gas, high pressure gas, low pressure liquid and high pressure liquid) as the air conditioning unit is being used. If an air conditioning does not have enough refrigerant, or the refrigerant has been contaminated, then it will not function properly. It is therefore important to check for leaks in an air conditioning unit from which this chemical can escape. Cleaning the filter of your air conditioner is something that you should do on a monthly basis. This is no big hassle as it will take you just 5 or 10 minutes. The filter on central air conditioning units can be found on the top or bottom of the unit, and the filter on the window type air conditioning units can be found somewhere near the intake of the unit. You can always check the manual that came with your air conditioner if you are struggling to locate the filter. It is important to switch off your air conditioning at the main circuit breaker before attempting to take out the filter. Having removed it, you should let it soak in warm, soapy water for 5 to 10 minutes, and then leave it to one side to dry out. If you put it back in the air conditioning unit before it has fully dried out then it is possible that mold may build up on it. For window type air conditioning unit filters, you can also use a vacuum cleaner on it. It is advisable to hire a qualified technician for extra air conditioning maintenance every twelve to eighteen months, as they can give you a better idea about the efficiency levels of your unit and what work needs doing to enable it to operate more effectively. This could be either in the form of cleaning the mechanical parts of the compressor system, or re-gassing the refrigerant. This should not be too costly, and it will certainly cost you less than having to buy a whole new air conditioner due to not properly maintaining your current one.

Look at this list, then check the adjacent suggestions. They may give the answer to your problem without having to telephone your Service office.

Problem Actions
It will not start or fill… Is the machine plugged in and switched on at the socket?
Is the door securely closed and latched?
Is the socket OK? Try another appliance in the socket. Are the fuses in the machine plug and the fuse box OK?
if not, replace it.
Is the water turned fully on and the hose not kinked?
Have you selected a programme and switched on?
Iis the filter fitted in the water inlet hose OK?
It will not pump out the water… Is the hose kinked?
If you have connected to a sink waste pipe, is the spigot
blocked?
Are the filters blocked?
The machine is leaking… Is the inlet hose firmly attached to the water supply?
• if your machine is not permanently plumbed in; did you empty the hose into a bucket after disconnecting from the tap?
• if your machine is permanently plumbed in; is the standpipe at
the correct height, and/s it the correct bore?
• Could it be condensation from the wall?
It keeps stopping and making clicking noises.. • Do not worry. the timer is working and selecting the next
operation, and there are also pauses whilst the water heats up.

Specks of food particles Remove and clean filter jets

Nearly all Washing Machines have a standard method of operation. Understanding how they work is not beyond most peoples capabilities:

Throughout the washing machine blog pages we have compiled basic tips and advice on fault finding and conducting DIY washing machine repairs.
The information is no where near exhaustive and you are welcome to email your ten penneth worth.
Always seek professional advice on attempting any electrical repair. Any help on these web pages is for information only and the usual common law disclosures apply.

When trying to diagnose a fault its quite difficult to know where to start but once you have a basic understanding of the various washing machine parts it’s quite simple to affect a simple repair. One of the first things that can be over looked is the Pressure Switch.

Pressure Switch (water level switch)

Before we get started on looking at your pressure switch, have you unplugged or isolated your machine from the fuse box or consumer panel.

Oh! did I mention, you need to isolate the machine from the fuse box.

The pressure switch or water level switch is used to measure the level of water in the washing machine drum.
This is achieved by the passage of air through a small rubber hose attached at one end to the base of the drum and at the other through a nipple on the switch. The hose being filled with air. When water begins to fill in the drum it also enters the hose. As the water level rises inside the drum, it pushes on the air trapped inside the hose and increases the air pressure. When the air pressure reaches a predefined level, it pushes on a diaphragm inside the switch.
Think of Boyles Law with pressure and volume and you can see how effective this is.

Finding mold in houses is very necessary, and if left to fester, it can pose extreme well being risks to individuals exposed to it. Mold is often a fungus that thrives on stagnant dampness. If you do have black mold in your basement , it is necessary to call a business that handles mold removal tasks.

[affmage source="ebay" results="20"]domestic appliance spare parts[/affmage]

Are Good Washing Machines Gone?

Even though most washing machines are not made as fine as they used to be mainly due to the tough competition, there are still one or two brands of washing machines that are still good enough or even better than they used to be. So if you ever decide that you absolutely want the top of the washing machine, and know which brand to search for, you can still buy a very efficient and effective washing machine. The problem is that a lot of manufacturers who used to make good and reliable products are unfortunately no longer making them to the same standards.

But to start with, and just as a little reminder, the first electric washing machines started to be mass produced around the beginning of the twentieth century in the United States of America.

As competition in the market increased over the recent years, many washing machine manufacturers found themselves obliged to lower the quality of their products in order to lower their prices instead of maintaining a high quality and obviously having to sell a more expensive washing machine. They now prefer to design their washing machines by using cheaper production methods and cheaper suppliers of Washing Machine Spare Parts.

And so, instead of their washing machines becoming better, they just get worse than they were.

The increase in production costs over the past years has seen the best quality new washing machines reach prices that most people will not be prepared to pay because these prices seem far too high compared to a common washing machine that they would find in a supermarket. On the other hand, consumers should know that manufacturers, by dumping the quality of their products have not made the budget end of new washing machines cheaper to buy than ever before, but comparatively more expensive than ever to repair as they will certainly break down even more quickly. But the good news is that you could save money when your washing machine breaks down.

Most of people do not think about washing machine spare parts when their domestic appliance breaks down. They would usually get it fixed by a specialist who will buy the washing machine spare parts and do the work for you, or would directly go to buy another one. But one option they tend to forget is they could fix it by themselves. It is not usually too difficult to fix some parts of your washing machine.

The problem is that it isn’t working & having contacted the manufacturer they say that the company that made the part I need no longer exist. The only way to resolve the problem is to buy the complete workings for the fire which has also had a few modifications since I bought mine & the cost of the parts will be almost £200 plus I have then to get a Corgi gas engineer to fit it at probably the best part of another £100. Its not a simple case of chucking the whole thing out and buying a complete new fire as its one of those modern built in the wall framed stainless steel jobs set about a metre high in a purpose made appature……. surely manufacturers have a duty to supply spare parts for their products for a number of years ……or dont they???

What part do you need ??? there will be one somewhere if you look!

Washing Machine

If you are looking for a washing machine, you may want to consider washing machine types such as top-loaders. Top-loaders which cost around $350 and more are user-friendly since users do not need to bend over when using them. As an alternative, why not also consider purchasing front-loaders which cost around $600 and more?

The great thing about this type is that 65% of energy will be saved and around 30% of water will be conserved because the basins that come with it do not need to be filled with water. However, keep in mind that the newly-released top-loaders which cost around $900 oppose the front-loaders which are energy efficient. It is important to look for the following factors:

Tip 1 # A washing machine that does not heat all the water contained in the machine.

Often times, people buying washing machines often do not care about whether the washing machine they are buying heats only the water it needs. This statement was said by Standards of Excellence manager John O’ Meara. He stated further that nowadays, this feature has been very common in many washing machines. Most washing machines now has the feature of saving and conserving energy by heating not the entire water contained in the tank but only the water needed for the washing. Generally, the newly-released washing machines are much more efficient that the washing machines released in the past. This comment was made by Jill Notini from the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers located in Washington D.C.

Tip 2 # A fast spin cycle.

If the spin cycle of a washing machine is fast, the faster it is to dry the clothes because more water is extracted from the spinner. According to www.applianceadvisor.com Alex Cheimets, it is very important that you look for a washing machine with a higher rpm or rotations per minute because it adds the energy that is being saved. A washing machine with 900 rpm is good and if you are looking for a machine that will help you save and conserve more energy, get a good pair of dryer and washing machine that comes with the moisture sensor. This shuts down the unit after detecting that the clothes are already dry.

Tip 3 # A machine that uses minimal amount of water.

According to Whirlpool spokesperson, Audrey Reed-Granger, the washing machines released in the past used 40 gallons of water for each cycle. If you would look at that for a year, you will arrive at over 14,000 gallon. It would be better to look for a washing machine that requires less than 14 gallons of water cycle consumption.

Tip 4 # Pedestals

Pedestals that cost around $100 up to $200 may now be installed in some washers and dryers. These pedestals are placed under the washing machine or dryer may be raised by one foot to make loading and unloading easier. There are also washers and dryers that already come with drawers used to stash bleach, stain-removal sticks and detergent.

Tip 5 # Extra rinse cycle

This is an additional option that you may opt to get. An extra rinse cycle allows the washing machine to dispense extra water while washing of clothes is ongoing. It a good way to remove stains and excessive detergent that may lead allergic people to sufferer especially babies however; the negative thing is that you may have to pay higher water bill.

A Piece of Advice:

Audrey Reed-Granger of Whirlpool noted that using spin cycle of a washing machine with a 1000 rpm shock-absorber free floor will make the floor shake but there is nothing to worry about this when used in a ground floor and basement because these machines are often reinforced.

Washing your clothes in cold water is great if you have cold-water detergent, but regular detergent is designed to work best with warm or hot water. If the water temperature of your washing machine is not properly regulated your clothes may not be getting as clean as they should.
why would my washing machine fill up after i have done a full wash and the water has drained out of the system

the water going into the washing machine is stagnant water. renovation has taken place in my building with two flat conversions. there have been recent plumbing problems with water leaking into the flat below me. i cant understand why water would get into my machine if the wash has drained out.it seems to happen over a period and i would notice it the next day.
is this bath water or dish water not draining from the pipe works because its definately not clean water from the hot and cold pipes

Is possible you have a back flow, or vacuum problem with the drain system. Contact building maintenance and have your problem investigated.

Understanding how your washing machine regulates water temperature can help you determine if your washing machine is working properly. Selecting the temperature setting for your wash cycle doesn?t guarantee the water temperature is correct.

Water enters your washer from separate hot and cold water taps in your home. Before making any unnecessary repairs, regulate the temperature of these two taps. In summer months your cold water will be warmer than in winter months, so you won’t need the temperature of the hot water tap to be as high. You can adjust the temperature of the hot water tap by adjusting the temperature settings on your furnace or boiler.

After adjusting the temperature of the water, check the following:

-Make sure the hot and cold taps are completely open.
-Make sure the temperature selector on your washer is set to the correct setting.
-Make sure the hot and cold water hoses are correctly connected to your washer.
[affmage source="ebay" results="8"]Washing Machine Spares[/affmage]
If the water temperature is still not correct, check the parts inside the washer that regulate water temperature. Some washers only allow hot or cold water to flow during certain cycles. Some models switch between hot and cold water, while others allow both hot and cold water to flow at the same time. (You can also look in the washer’s manual for more information on how the water entering your washing machine is regulated.) The parts responsible for regulating the temperature of the water are the temperature selector switch and water inlet valve.

The temperature selector switch allows you to choose the temperature of the wash and rinse cycles. Some washers only have a few choices of water temperatures, and some washers have many choices. The temperature selector switch consists of electrical circuits and contacts that open and close depending on the water temperature selected.

The water inlet valve is located at the back of your washer and it’s connected to the cold and hot water taps in your home. The water inlet valve contains two solenoids sometimes referred to as coils. One solenoid is for the hot water and one is for the cold water. The temperature selector switch regulates the opening and closing of the solenoids to control the flow of water through the valve. After the water passes through the solenoids, it leaves the valve through one common hose and fills your washer.

If there’s a problem with your water inlet valve, the water temperature is affected. Find out how to examine, test, and replace your washer’s water inlet valve in next weeks article ? Washer Woes: Part 2 – How to replace a water-inlet valve.

I have a whirlpool washer and the spin cycle will not work anymore.Do I need to buy a new washer?

My washer is a little over 5 years old none of the spin cycles works anymore no matter what the setting I put it on /perm press/delicate/ect.. The agitator works fine . Im not sure if I should have this repaired or just buy a new I would prefer to have it repaired if it wont be too expensive…

There are a few possible reasons this would occur:

- the lid switch is not working properly

- a faulty solenoid relay is not shifting the transmission into the spin cycle

- the timer which controls the solenoid relay is faulty

- the transmission itself is faulty.

In rare instances with belt-driven machines, a loose/worn belt will work in the agitation (wash) cycle but be too weak to spin the tub in the spin cycle. A burning rubber smell in your washroom would be a sign that the belt is slipping and needs to be replaced

There is nothing more heartbreaking then having your washer break down. It is usually something that doesn’t suddenly happen, but rather a moaning, slow death that can leave you washing your clothes with the other rif-raf at the laundromat, while a murder or drug deal is taking place in the alley out back.

Break Out the Tool Box

So you break out your tool box and begin to take your whirlpool washer apart but wait! Are you sure that you can put it all back together again after you do? Sure you can, if you just follow a few good tips.

Keep Notes

Use a pencil and piece of paper to create a map of just where everything came from as you dismantle it and save all the screws, nuts and washers. Tape little notes onto each part before you set it aside and keep everything together in a big box.

Consider Buying Used Parts Online
[affmage source="ebay" results="8"]Whirlpool Washer[/affmage]
Another good tip is to give serious consideration to buying used parts online when you replace what ever is broken on it. It will save you loads of cash and besides what is the rest of your Whirlpool washer but used parts?

Save all Gaskets

Make sure to save any gaskets that you come across no matter what shape they are in. This is because you can go down to any auto parts store and pick up a big sheet of “cut your own” gasket material and use your old gaskets to trace out new ones.

Get the Part Number

You are going to need your part number and model number before you begin to look online for the replacement part that you need. The part number should be on the part itself, but if it isn’t you can get it from a schematics on the company website.

A Final Tip

If you cant find the model number on your washing machine then the company website will also have that as well. A final tip, is to keep your box of parts up and away from kids because they are attracted to things of this sort like ants to honey.

Why does my washing machine fill with water after I use it?

Every time I use the washing machine, I notice a few hours after, that there is water in the bottom of the drum.
The only way to clear it is by running the cycle again which means I have to use the machine twice for every wash – once to clear the drum, and once to wash.
Because it happens every time, I have to leave the water and so it smells but how can I stop it entering the machine. It is a Hotpoint Electronic 1000 Plus 9534.

I have tried turning the blue and red valves off after the wash but it is still happening. Thanks for any help.

Need to replace the auto-fill valve. Google it for your model. It’s not hard to replace. The reason it fills even when you turn the water off is because there’s still water in the hoses.

If you are looking for a washing machine, you may want to consider washing machine types such as top-loaders. Top-loaders which cost around £350 and more are user-friendly since users do not need to bend over when using them. As an alternative, why not also consider purchasing front-loaders which cost around £600 and more?

The great thing about this type is that 65% of energy will be saved and around 30% of water will be conserved because the basins that come with it do not need to be filled with water.
