Samsung Washing Machine Error Code Overview

SAMSUNG WASHING MACHINES, ERROR FUNCTIONS

When an error occurs, the alarm noise will sound and the error code displayed in the program window. Listed below is a series of error codes you may or may not see for your model of Samsng Washing Machine. The errors are shown as blinking in O.5 second intervals until the error status has cleared. In this case, all the driving devices are turned off until the error is cleared.

1. WATER SUPPLY ERROR – Display shows 4E.

Water Supply Error occurs when water level frequency does not show changes more than 100Hz or water is not supplied up to the preset water level after 10 Minutes or more at the time of initial water supply. The error status can be cleared by turning the POWER switch OFF and back ON.

2. WATER DRAIN ERROR – Display shows 5E.

5E is displayed if the water level frequency detected is 25 KHz or less in the initial phase of the UNB -detecting cycle. The Water Drain error can be cleared by turning POWER SW OFF and back ON.

3. OVER-FLOW ERROR – Display shows oE.

Over-Flow error occurs when the water level is too high. It can be cleared by turning POWER switch OFF. Water is drained prior to POWER switch OFF. The tub is drained for 2 minutes if a frequency of more than 25 KHz is detected.

4. UNBALANCE ERROR – Display shows UE.

Laundry load is unbalanced, manually loosen any tangled laundry.

If only one item of clothing needs washing, such as a bathrobe or jeans, the final spin result might be unsatisfactory and an UE error message will be shown in the display. Unbalance error is cleared by POWER switch OFF and back ON.

5. WATER HEATER ERROR – Display shows HE, HE1.

HE, HE1 is displayed if the water temperature rises by 7 C or more in 1 Min or by 2 C or less 20 Min after heating process has started. The error can be cleared by turning POWER switch OFF.

6. WATER PRESSURE SWITCH ERROR – Display shows 1 E.

* Generated Frequency Signal of WATER LEVEL (WIL) SIW (KHz)

Normal Level = Abnormal W/L Frequency
Low Level = 30.00 Khz
High Level = 15.00 Khz

If the same signal is detected for more than 5 seconds, it is a PRESSURE SWITCH Error. When this error occurs the drain pump will operate for 3 min. and the display will show 1 E indicating a pressure switch error.

7. ABNORMAL WATER TEMPERATURE ERROR- Display shows cE.

e.g. If the water temperature is 50 C or more, during a Delicate or Wool cycle.

At the time of initial water supply, if the water temperature is not appropriate, the display will show cE. This error can be cleared by POWER SWITCH OFF.

8. WATER LEAKAGE ERROR – Display shows 11 E.

Water Leakage error occurs when the water drains naturally, (by leakage) after the washing program starts.

9. THERMISTOR ERROR – Display shows tE.

This error occurs when the Thermistor circuit is abnormal or a voltage of O.2v or below or, 4.5v and over is detected. This error can be cleared by POWER switch OFF.

10. MOTOR RESTRICTION ERROR- Display shows 3E.

Hall Senior is sensed every SOOms. 1 second after motor starts to work.

If data of hall sensor is less than 2 (2RPM), the Washing motor will stop at once.

During Washing and Rinsing when a motor restriction is sensed, the motor stops and then proceeds to the next water -flow action. If the motor stops working and this happens in one direction ten times, “3E” Error is displayed.

During dehydrating. when a motor restriction is sensed. the motor stops working and then returns to the initial stage of the dehydration unbalance sensing cycle. After ten times, “3E” Error isdisplayed, When the motor Is told to stop because of an operating function. no error is shown.

Power 81W OFF can clear the motor restriction error.

11. OVER CURRENT ERROR – Display shows 8E.

IPM fault signal (this is caused by the overload of the MICOM INTO during motor action).

IPM: Integrated power module. The IPM controls the motor.

If the fault (low signal) happens to be sensed even once during the washing/rinsing stage, the motor stops immediately. However, during the dehydrating stage the signal is to be sensed, when the number of signals reads more than 6 per 500ms during the Washing or Rinsing cycle action.

If the motor stops working, in one direction ten times, “8E” Error is displayed.

During dehydrating, when the overload is sensed, the motor stops working at once and then feeds back to the initial stage of the dehydration unbalance sensing. When the feed back has occcurred twice, Error “8E” is displayed during the dehydrating unbalance sensing, No error happens by overload sensing. When it happens at more than 800rpm, the process is stopped compulsorily. Power Switch OFF can clear the overload error.

TEST MODE

1. Driving Compartment Test Mode
A. Hold down “ 1” and “ 2” keys simultaneously and then press POWER SWITCH “ 4” on.

B. The driving compartment can be tested when you press “ 3” key right after entering
into the initial stage of the TEST MODE.

C. Press the “ 3” key and display shows the inside temperature of tub.

Low levels of chemicals known to cause chemical sensitivity are found in tap water, as well as metals known or suspected of causing harm.
The regulations that govern water quality permit levels of chemicals which may not be Hazardous to your health. Chemically sensitive people are, however, affected by very low levels of chemicals, and those present in tap water are often sufficient to cause them reactions.

What you find in your drinking water vary quite considerably across the country, and even within the locality of water companies. This is partly because the level of industrial or agricultural contaminants leeching into the surrounding countryside and finding their way into the local water table. It is also because of the age and quality of water treatment plants and their associated pipe networks. You might happen to live in an locality with relatively new water processing stations and pipe networks, or with little or no industry, or with low fertiliser use in farming, then your potable water will contain lower levels of chemicals than that of other places.
Of course your water supply may come from groundwater drawn direct from springs and or boreholes. If this is the case then little or no filtration would be required.

Water that is drawn from lakes is subject to more pollution and needs greater sanitization, especially water from lowland rivers and reservoirs. The chemicals found in tap water which are predominantly associated with chemical sensitivity are: chlorine, nitrates, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, trihalomethanes, and organic solvents.

Aluminium, found naturally or added to purify water in some areas, is linked to some health problems and in the case of the older buildings, lead can be found sometimes in water pipes within the home and is known to be a health hazard.
Traces of other heavy metals are also found in drinking water – metals such as zinc. Metals like cadmium do not cause specific sensitivity reactions, but it is thought that digesting

We get this asked all the time. How do I remove the oven door?

It’s actually quite difficult to explain this over the phone and I get asked this virtually on a daily basis. I mean, how do you explain what an hoofadoofa is and what the roundy bit on the twisty mode is. People naturally have their on interpretation of the names of the different parts are so it can get confusing, so lets have a picture.

This is only an example of what a hinge might look like, this one is from a Hotpoint Cooker and yours might look completely different but the principle is the same.

Firstly open door fully and then place the metal clips, part B, which form part of the hinge arm, part A, onto the hook on the under side of the hinge arm, part C. Once you have done this you have then locked the hinges in position but be aware that the hinge springs are now fully loaded.

Now you can remove the door as illustrated in the second picture here. There are two movements here but you must hold the door by the sides. Do not hold the door by the handle because once the door is off the oven you will have the weight of the door on the handle, it will break off and your door will be in a thousand bits on the kitchen floor. I have no problem in supplying you with a new door but you don’t want to part with 100 quid at this stage.

While holding the door at the sides, lift it to 45 deg and then pull it towards you. You should now be able to safely remove the oven door.

Don’t you just hate that when it happens. Now your clothes are stuck inside your washing machine. Don’t be tempted to prise the door open just because Jonny’s boots are in there, it will cost you the price of a door latch mechanism, a door interlock or door handle. If the door interlock fails then this could keep you from openeing the door. Modern day washing machines have a door interlock that prevent the door from opening when the motor is still turning or when water is still in the drum of the machine.

Thing to do is remove the drain hose from the outlet stand pipe and bring it down to floor level so that the water can drain from the tub. If this is not an option, then remove the stopper from the drain pump filter at the base of the washing machine and let the water drain say onto a tray or soemthing similar. Aware that there is about a gallon and a half of water or 7 litres in new money. so it will require a couple of trips.

Draining the water releases the pressure switch activating on the door interlock, then the door can be opened. Do this while you send the misses out for more larger so you get to make as much mess as you like without getting an ear bashing. This isa tried and tested method.

The washing machine is very noisy.

Although difficult to describe, the noise you hear is probably down to worn bearings. The bearings will fail mainly due to the fact that the bearing seal has failed, water will then pass to the bearings and start to break down the lubricant.
With the back off your machine, remove the drive belt from the main motor and drum pulley. Spin the drum by hand. Is it lumpy and noisey. Have you any lateral movement of the drum when you try to lift it from the front of the drum.
Other things to consider is run up the motor while the belt is removed.

Does the drum turn or spin.

A washing machine has a motor that turns the drum. Depending on what make of model you have, it will be fitted with either a commutator motor (one that has carbon brushes) or an induction motor (a brushless motor).
On first inspection you may not be able to identify what motor you have. If you have never seen a carbon brush it might be worth checking out the pictures we have available listed under the relavent machine section or see sample motor carbon brushes.
If you suspect the motor failure, first check to see if you have a brush type motor. If so carefully remove the brush from the motor. Lots of carbon dust in and around the brushes may indicate excessive wear. Check the length of the carbon within the carbon brush holder. Anything less that 10mm then change them.

What is a washing machine error code?

Well, most modern day washing machines come equipped with a printed circuit board (PCB) that behaves like a small computer. This not only provides the program selection to operate the machine but has service information to help diagnose problems.

On your control panel facia, you may have and LED of LCD readout. During normal operation this will indicate the program selection or time to wash or even the temperature of your wash. In the event of a washing machine failure, this readout will show an error code.

If you look in the back of your user handbook you may see some examples of error codes and their meaning. Some manufacturers prefer not to divulge this information so you may have to refer to the appliance repair help blog you are now reading. We hope to bring some examples of washing machine error codes here but if your machine is not covered let us know and we may be able to help.

Some of the earlier washing machines didn’t use led / lcd readouts but and led lamps. The led lights signified an error code based on the sequence the lights where lit. They can be On, Off or Flashing.

As an example I am going to use Hotpoint WMA types of machine but only because it is one of the most popular models in the UK market.

OK We all have a washing machine in our homes. Well nearly all of us, but at some point in our lives and not the washing machines, we may have to attempt to replace the bearings in our washing machine.

As an engineer I often get asked ‘How do I fit a Bearing in a Washing Machine?‘ by friends and family. So I figured and should show all you guys how I do it by writing this small article right here.

First things first. You have got to pick a good day on which you are going to attempt this. If you are new to this, you will have to give your self approximately 8 hours. In real time this is 2 days of anyones time. Hotpoint engineers can do this job in about 2 hours or so but this is not a race as we only want to do this the once.

I’m assuming you already have a decent tool kit otherwise you wouldn’t be attempting this washing machine bearing change. A decent screwdriver set, a few open ended spanners – 10mm, 13mm, 17mm, 19mm – and a decent hammer, a big one, no lets make that a really big one. As an apprentice engineer, brute force and ignorance was my biggest asset and it still carries to this day so don’t be afraid to use a big hammer.

We mentioned time didn’t we. We need to pick a day of the week and since most peoples free time is a weekend, lets pick a Saturday. That’s best because I work a Saturday and if you get stuck you can always give me a ring. The next thing to do is research the type of bearings you will need, so establish what the model number of your washing machine is by identifying the rating plate. Its on the inside of the door.

Zanussi Electrolux Carbon Brushes

As you well know, identifying Zanussi Washing Machine Motor Brushes is quite difficult because the manufacturer took it upon themselves to design a washing machine that was produced with different types of motor.

Electrolux, who are the people who own the brand for Zanussi amongst others, used three different types of motor. These are SOLE, FHP and CESET for washing machines and washer dryers with spin speeds between 650 rpm and 1600 rpm.

Each type of motor may have been alternatively fitted to the same machines during production but are perfectly interchangeable with each other. The Refrigerator water filter is one way of ensuring that the water you drink from your refrigerator dispenser or even the ice cubes you use are pure. What I mean by that is the water you use from the refrigerator has been cleaned of the heavy deposits and odours.

Refrigerator water filters are designed for use in refrigerators with ice-makers or dispensing water through the door. These water filters systems are fitted by way of a water line that runs from your plumbing or mains supply to your refrigerator where the water is then filtered and cooled, the refrigerated water you have filtered is usually used mainly for drinking water only.

Water filters for Refrigerators are normally located either inside the fridge or at the bottom of the unit inside the grill, or even at the top of the refrigerator. The in-line Refrigerator water filter is designed for use on refrigerators with icemaker and/or water dispensers and is a small activated charcoal filter designed to filter out certain solids and chemicals from your water source before the water gets to your water dispenser or ice maker. Carbon is the main substance utilized in water filtration processes as it has the potential of absorbing a lot of the contaminants found in water.

Although many refrigerators are designed with a built-in water filter, any refrigerator that has an ice-maker or water dispenser on the door can be outfitted with a water filter. In additions to refrigerators, this type of water filter can be used in conjunction with water fountains, ice machines, commercial coffee makers or water coolers. Built-in refrigerator water filters are becoming increasingly popular, and most of the major makers of refrigerators, such as Frigidaire, GE, Whirlpool, Kenmore, Sears, Samsung, and LG, offer these types.

Using a water filter is one way of ensuring that the water you drink from your refrigerator dispenser or even the ice cubes you use are pure. The water filters guarantee safe clean great tasting drinking water and ice making. Many makes of modern refrigerators have built-in filtering systems that help make crystal clear ice and water from door dispensers. Fridge water filters are made to mount on a plumbed refrigerator and provide filtration for drinking water and ice from your refrigerator.

Your dishwasher, when correctly installed, can give you years of uninterrupted hassle free washing and cleaning. Then one day you go to switch on your trusty dishwasher and nothing happens.

What’s the first thing you going to do to fix this annoyance. Well I guess you might find the answer right here on the appliance repair help site but don’t reach for the phone book just yet because this might be something you can fix your self.

I’ll explain. Modern day dishwashers like those manufactured by Bosch and you can include Siemens and Neff in that have a built in safety feature protecting the dishwasher against flooding. The technical term is ‘Anti Flood Device’. There are other manufacturers who provide the same features but for now I’m only going to talk about the Bosch type machines.

In the base of the dishwasher in the plinth there is a float switch. This is your ‘Anti Flood Device’. In the event of your dishwasher over filling, the plinth fills with water, the float rises and actuates the switch. On a Bosch dishwasher this switch will do two things.

Firstly, it will send a signal to the programmer device to notify there is a fault and output a message in the form of a code to some sort of display.

Secondly, the pressure switch acts as the water level indicator for the sump of the dishwasher so when the water level rises the pressure switch will activate the drain pump.

So before you consider throwing good money at new dishwasher, try doing a bit of fault finding your self and you might save yourself a ton of money.
