v8 Actinic Development woes

by Spare Parts Pro on November 30, 2006

As you well know, we upgraded our web site recently that now uses Actinic Business v8.

The transition was quite easy really that didn’t cause to much of a headache. The new v8 Actinic comes with an import facility that allows older versions of Actinic to be imported into the new package. This way there is no need to completely rebuild your catalogue and is a straight forward process until – all the mods you applied to your old design may not have filtered through as you might expect.

I’ll tell you something for nothing, new v8 = new web site design. You just spent a whole bunch of money on this software and you want to introduce all the dead wood into your online catalogue. NO! Out with old in with the new. Stick your neck out here and start from scratch. OK Its going to take hours days and weeks to complete but it will be worth it in the end. You will reap the rewards of all your hard work, I guarantee it.

Simple bit of trickery with a spreadsheet and you can have all your original file names poured straight into your new database, so all the pages that have been indexed by Google will still be relevant when you upload the new site. Later on we are going to talk about the little snippits I have found as work arounds in getting your pages up and running.

For now its TTFN
